On this day, December 14th in: 

• 1964 - Petula Clark released the single Downtown. The song reached # 1 in January 1965 making Clark the first female artist from the UK to have a U.S. # 1 hit during the rock & roll era. She would go on to have 14 more hits in the U.S. Top 40. Downtown would be certified gold and chart # 1 in 5 countries, and land in the Top Ten all over the world.
